Casyn Cates Fundraiser
A number of Sheridan County athletes were competing in healthy events, to try to help make a young boy become healthier.
This past February, 3-year old Casyn Cates of Sheridan, was diagnosed with childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
It’s a type of cancer of both the blood and the bone marrow, the latter of which makes too many immature lymphocytes, which is a type of white blood cell.
As a result he had a low hemoglobin level and was at risk for heart failure.
Since then he’s had to go to Children’s Hospital in Denver for chemotherapy treatments.
To help with the hospital bills, a track and meet fundraiser was held at the Sheridan High School track.
Participants paid an entry fee for each event they competed in and the proceeds went to the Cates family.
More than $4,800 was raised.
